Street Style Sunday
This weekends street style features lovely Lucy; a very bright little girl I met while visiting one of my favorite lunch spots, De La Cruz Bistro in downtown Mesa. We may have our next fashion icon on our hands with this little darling; not only is she adorable with her killer eyebrows, she's also got killer style!
I was not the first to notice Lucy's great look; The Almost Famous Film Festival also took notice and made her not only the image for their donation page, but the cover of the festivals C.D.!
I'll bet we'll be seeing a lot more from Miss Lucy!

Fun With Friends!
It's always a great time when you get to work with your friends. This past weekend I had the
pleasure of working with Jim Conner who is a fabulous photographer. He's got an eye for angles and interesting composition. He creates images that draw you into their space and time. Check out his blog here for a sample of his work.
And we couldn't have done it without our friend Nick who let us use his super awesome warehouse to do the shoot. I love this space because the possibilities are endless here. Every nook and crank in this place is a great spot to shoot. From beautiful vintage furniture to heavy machinery it's got everything for props and the
cement floors and industrial windows and shop doors... I could g
o on and on. BIG thanks Nick!! If you'd like info about doing your next shoot at the warehouse please contact me at ruebiretro@gmail.com.
Here are a few of my favorite images from out dynamic shoot!

Vegan Cupcakes. Well.. almost.
I reeallly wanted some cupcakes last night so I found this awesome vegan recipe and decided to give it a go. I did a little altering so they weren't exactly vegan but they tasted great! Here is the original recipe.
For my cupcakes I used butter instead of margarine (because it's what I had), whole wheat flour, store bought cream cheese frosting that was left over from Valentines day ~ note the pink, and I didn't add nutmeg or walnuts because I don't have any. They ended up tasting just like carrot cake. Amazing! I will definitely be making them again.

Green Shopping Guide | Care2 Healthy & Green Living
This website is a great start for going green with tips on everything from cleaning to shopping! We'll start with the shopping of course! Check it out:
image from The Hempest.
If you're interested..
I've started a photoblog of what I'm wearing each day. The idea is that it'll help me to remember that I do have lots of super cute stuff in my wardrobe, even if it doesn't seem so sometimes. This way I can take a look back and pick an outfit from the photos to throw on and that I already know looks good. It definitely beats staring blankly into my closet for 1/2 an hour.. check it out here.
Lykke Li
Thinking about summer styles reminded me of this amazing video by Lykke Li. I absolutely adore her! Her style is personalized while staying current. Well, and this video makes me want to get dolled up and dance around my living room. <3
Street Style Sunday
With temperatures already reaching 100 degrees we can safely say it's officially summer in Arizona! Naturally, everyone is poolside and this weekend and I spotted this super stylish group of ladies immediately. There's nothing I love more than a well coordinated group who all look amazing, and all while lounging around the pool. Well done ladies! The theme among this group was geometric and tribal inspired prints, chunky jewelry, and strapy jeweled and braided sandals.
Ty and Mariah.
Ladies lounging.
Anais, Charity, and Aya.
Shop for these looks at American Apparel, Forever 21, and Urban Outfitters or shop online at etsy.com to find unique, one-of-a-kind, and vintage pieces.

This. Is. Awesome.
I had to post this project. It's one of the most interesting things I've seen in a long time. It made me think about the way people view themselves as well as the way we are genetically constructed. Absolutely fantastic work. The Ecoism Project by Julian Wolkenstein.

My Finished Springtime Tote Bag!
Today made this adorable bag based off of the tutorial I posted last night. I absolutely love it! It's exactly what I needed for school.
I did make a silly mistake though so I thought it would be worth sharing: When placing the straps to be sewn in make sure you place them between the two right sides on each side and not just inside the inside-out tote. If you do this they will be trapped inside when you turn the bag inside out.
Also, I found that I prefer leaving the opening to pull through in the top hem of the bag. This makes it very easy to iron and simply sew shut. I believe in the link it says to leave the opening in the side of the bag..
If you aren't into in making your own bag but would like to have one I am making them for $28.00 for a simple tote and $32.00 for a pocket tote. (shipping is always free).
I have several solid and patterned materials and can combine up to 3 different ones for your bag based on your interests. All bags are reversible! Pre-shrunk and machine washable.

Tomorrows Sewing Project!
I'm making this reversible tote bag to carry my school stuff in. I've been using the thin cheap ones from Forever 21 and I'm sick of them tearing so I'll be using a slightly heavier material and when it gets too dirty it'll be easy to flip for a new fresh new look!

I found this fantastic article on temporary fabric wallpaper which of course provides a great solution for renters who want to add color to their spaces but who would also like to get back that hefty security deposit when they move. Check out the article with complete instructions here.
Street Style Sunday
I obviously started but never really used this blog so I figure since I'm super stoked on life at the moment that it would be a good time to get started.
Since I'm usually out on Saturday's, Sunday's are a good time to post pictures of all the super stylish head-turning people I see out and about.
Unfortunately I'm not great with my new camera yet so only a few of the images i took last night turned out well enough to post. I'm getting the hang of it now though so there should be lots of great images next week. :) Happy Sunday!
Tobie Milford and the lovely Marcelle.
Adorable Anya
Show stoppers for sure! If anyone out there knows the names of these two lovely ladies please let me know.
